Allergy tests are any of several tests used to determine the substances to which a person is allergic. Allergy testing involves having a skin or blood test to find out what substance, or allergen, may trigger an allergic response in a person. Patch testing is useful where an external contact allergen is suspected. Allergy blood tests look for substances in the blood called antibodies. Your dermatologist will discuss with you which test is more appropriate for your type of allergy.
