With repeated frowning and smiling, dynamic lines that occur only during frowning or smiling may later become etched into the skin, resulting in lines even when at rest. Injections of very small amounts of Botox® into the overactive muscles can help to relax them, dramatically reducing the appearance of these dynamic lines as well as reducing the lines present at rest. Filler injections or laser resurfacing may be required for deeper lines that persist even when the muscles are relaxed.
Botox® starts to work after a few days and reaches its maximum effect in 2 weeks. Results last 3-4 months initially, but with repeated injections, will last longer, up to 6 months.
