Types of Filler Injections
Hyaluronic acid, the primary ingredient in popular fillers like Juvéderm™ and Restylane™, increases collagen production on top of restoring lost volume. As the substance fills up the affected area, it simultaneously creates more firming connective tissue, providing longer-lasting results. (Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that attracts water molecules, giving you fuller and tighter skin.)
Other collagen-stimulating fillers, such as Radiesse™ and Ellanse™ which provide similarly long-lasting results (up to 2 years), are also available.
Which type(s) and amount of filler you use will depend on the severity of your volume loss and your specific needs and preferences. In experienced hands, different types of fillers can be carefully combined for the specific aesthetic concerns present, allowing your dermatologist to achieve even better combined results that look natural and aesthetically pleasing.
What is the Filler Procedure Like?
When the ideal filler has been chosen and the treatment areas identified, the dermatologist will proceed to sterilize the area and possibly apply a topical numbing agent.
The filler will then be carefully injected in order to ensure even and precise distribution. In some cases, multiple injection sites may be necessary to achieve the intended result.
In most cases, the process shouldn’t take more than half an hour, and you can resume your daily activities right after. There may be minor redness and swelling initially, but will resolve on its own shortly.
